"Back in the year 2000, I sent over 100 letters to local companies asking for an apprenticeship, luckily for me one person gave me a chance. Then in 2003, after doing day release at Eastbourne college, I become a qualified carpenter. I then decided to stay on for another year to complete an advanced course." - Andy

It has always been on my mind to one day repay the system and put a young local lad through college and in 2018 I employed Michael. Michael was just coming to the end of a joinery course when we met and was struggling to find someone to give him an apprenticeship. Having given Michael a trial I could tell he had the right attitude to succeed and soon offered him an apprenticeship. Almost 2 years on and Michael has become a valuable member of the Shield Build team and his carpentry skills have improved massively and we look forward to him progressing further.
